Frequently asked questions: plastic products
- What are your most popular plastic bags?
- Our most popular styles are take home bags, grab bags and litterbags. Best selling sizes are 15” x 18” and 11” x 15”.
- What are your most popular stock design themes?
- Halloween is easily our most popular theme, but customer appreciation, health care, and patriotic themes are popular too.
- Are your bags made of recycled material?
- We recycle our own process scrap whenever possible. Typically, our products will contain 10–15% pre-consumer recycled material. We use post-consumer recycled plastic if available and of the necessary standard.
- Can your bags be used for doggy (food) bags?
- Our bags are used for food take-out services, but food should first be placed in the proper container.
- Can we apply a stock design graphic to any bag or only the specific size and style shown?
- No, printing plates for our stock designs are sized to fit the maximum imprint area on the bag size or style shown. These designs will not fit properly on another size or style of bag.
- What is the difference between post printing and in-line printing?
- In-line printing means we imprint the roll of plastic before converting it into bags. Post-printed bags are printed after the bag has been made. Bags printed in-line have a higher quality imprint and more color possibilities. Post-printed bags have short production times, but lower quality imprints and maximum of 2 colors.
- What is the difference between grab bags and take home bags?
- The main difference is the handle. Grab bags feature a simple die-cut handle, while take home bags have the top edge folded inward, offering greater strength. Grab bags are typically produced with 3.0 mil plastic, while take home bags use 2.0 mil plastic.
- Why is black ink the only color available on your clear frosted bags?
- Special inks are necessary to print on frosted bags. Currently, we only stock the most popular color: black.
- Do your bags carry a suffocation warning?
- Legally, any plastic bag that is 1.0 mil thick or less requires a suffocation warning. Since all Noteworthy bags are thicker than 1.0 mil we do not include this warning. A warning can be incorporated if desired.
- Why is colored plastic offered as an option at no charge on some bags, but not others?
- Colored plastic is offered at no charge as a special promotion. Colored plastic is more costly to manufacture than plain white plastic.
- What is the most popular trade show bag?
- The two most popular bags are soft loop handle bags and molded snap handle bags.
- How much weight do your bags hold?
- Carrying capacity varies, depending on the style of handle, type of plastic, and plastic thickness.
- What is the largest bag you manufacture?
- The largest bag we produce is 24” W x 36” H, but you are limited to a 2-color imprint.
- Will my bags have a color strip on it if using process printing?
- A color strip is used to help our press operators acquire the proper plate registration for process printing. We always try to hide this strip inside the handle or bottom gusset, but, if requested, this strip can be removed before your bag begins production.
- What is process printing?
- Process printing is a method used to reproduce complex full-color images on a substrate.
- What are plate charges?
- Polymer plates are used to print custom designs on plastic. These are made from scratch and we charge only for materials used. Charges are $2 (G) per square inch of plate material. You can estimate the charge by using the following formula: plate charge = (imprint area) x (number of colors) x $2.00 (G) Plates are stored for 3 years. During this time, exact reorders do not incur plate charges. Also, when ordering stock designs, you only pay a plate charge for your custom imprint.
- What is the difference between high and low-density plastic bags?
- High density plastic offers greater strength but it is not as printer-friendly as low-density plastic. High density plastic is commonly used to produce supermarket bags, but promotional bags are typically made of low-density plastic, as the print quality is superb and the texture more pleasant to touch.
- What is your over/under run policy?
- All orders are subject to a 10% variation in the quantity ordered and are billed accordingly. Over/under runs are a requirement because of the nature of the manufacturing process. It is impossible for us to manufacture exact quantities. However, our 10% variation is the lowest in the industry for in-line printing.
- Can danger flags be ordered on a roll and can they be perforated?
- Yes, we will quote certain sizes in this configuration. There must be a 2,500 piece minimum.
